The Dragons dumped their staid old attacking ways and threw in the element of surprise to come up with an impressive win – their first of the season – against Cronulla. Was it a false dawn or the start of something big? We’ll soon find out.

Newcastle played in fits and starts against Canberra but still got the job done in the end. They have won three from four and look a vastly different outfit to the 2012 model. All those victories, however, have come at Hunter Stadium. Wayne Bennett is yet to crack it for a win against his old club, falling to former apprentice Steve Price in both encounters last year.
These teams team tend to play better away than at home when up against each other. Newcastle enjoys a 3-2 record at Kogarah.
Arguably the toughest game of the round to pick. We’re not convinced Newcastle are as good as their early season record suggests and who knows what to expect from the Red V? If they fire up like they did against the Sharks – and show the same flair in attack – then they are in with a huge show. But it’s a big if. Apart from the round two blowout against Manly, the Knights have had little trouble crossing the stripe or defending it. A win to the visitors would not surprise but the Dragons have the slightest of edges at home.
