MISSING IN ACTION: Canterbury’s two Josh’s – Reynolds and Morris – are both on NSW Origin duty again meaning youngster Tim Lafai and the versatile Joel Romelo get another chance in the top grade. Ben Barba will play his 150th match for the club.
The Roosters have been hit a little harder by Origin, with halves Mitchell Pearce and James Maloney, and centre Michael Jennings all unavailable. Aidan Guerra will move from the bench into the centres, while Daniel Mortimer and Mitchell Aubusson are the new halves pairing. Dylan Napa and Nafe Seluini are on the bench, while prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will serve the final match of his five-week ban.
FORM: The Bulldogs are the hottest side in the NRL at the moment having won seven of their last eight matches. After a poor start to the season, last year’s grand finalists are no longer ‘under the radar’. Their golden-point win over Manly last weekend was the first time this season they have beaten a top four side.
It’s not time for panic stations yet but there’s a few cracks starting to appear in the Roosters’ juggernaut of late. The Tri-Colours’ shock 23-12 home defeat to the Warriors last weekend was their second loss in three games and they are starting to lose pace with the top two. The Origin period looms as a huge challenge for coach Trent Robinson with his halves and key centre involved which has led to some tired-looking performances in recent weeks.
